An impressive 17th-century English portrait of a gentleman. Measuring 35 x 38 inches including its original, hand-carved lely frame. That is a stunner, fabulously aged and with great patina. I will sell the frame separately if you are interested.

Large 16th century portrait in the Dutch style depicting a young man, formally dressed in black with a stiff white ruff. The inscription
'AE TATIS.ZZ/ 1579 (painted in the year 1579) appears in the upper right corner, while a coat of arms is situated in the left. Similar to the Hall family crest. Executed in oil on oak panel, he measures 93 by 72 centimeters.
The painting was once owned by Arthur Granville Soames of Sheffield Park, Sussex. It was subsequently sold at Sotheby's in March 1954 when the contents of Sheffield Park was auctioned off. There are fragments of a handwritten note from the Right Honourable Alan Lennox-Boyd MP of Kelvedon Hall.
The frame has some losses.
