





17th century oil portrait of King Charles I depicted in armour, presented in a traditional feigned oval and housed in a gilt frame.
This painting was acquired from the National Trust Penrose Estate in 2019. The estate was inherited by Jordan Adlard-Rogers after he successfully proved his lineage as the son of the late aristocrat Charles Rogers, at which time a number of artworks from the estate were sold.
The painting has been previously professionally relined
The frame is inscribed “King Charles I” in the bottom left corner.

Oil on canvas in a period hand carved Lely style oval gilt frame popular in this time period. The painting displays well with attractive craquelure and age-related character. She has been previously relined.

The painting was purchased direct from the family who said it had been passed down through their relatives. They mentioned a surviving family letter written by a great-great-great grandmother which rather amusingly referred to her as the “uppity cousin” who was getting above herself by having her portrait painted. Portraits being a significant marker of status and social aspiration in that period.

Late 17th / early 18th century oil portrait depicting a gentleman wearing a full-bottomed periwig and holding a rolled document. The style and dress suggest German or Central European School, dating from approximately 1690–1715.
The sitter holds a document bearing an inscription beginning “Gottfr…”, possibly referring to the name Gottfried, although It could also be “Gott sey” (older spelling of “Gott sei”), it’s German and roughly means:
“God be…” or “God be with…”
The portrait may depict a Lutheran pastor, scholar, or civic official, typical subjects for portraits of this period.
Oil on canvas with age-related craquelure consistent with its age. The canvas appears to have been re-lined or re-stretched in the 19th century and is on a later stretcher. An old inventory label numbered 34077 is attached to the reverse.
Presented in a decorative hand carved gilt frame.
A striking early portrait with great presence.

A finely painted 19th century oil on canvas portrait depicting a well-dressed gentleman, shown half length against a warm neutral background. The sitter wears a traditional black coat with a high white cravat and waistcoat, typical of the Regency to early Victorian period, circa 1830–1840.
The portrait displays good quality detail in the face and clothing, with a calm and dignified expression. Presented in an attractive and substantial gilt frame with ornate scroll and floral decoration, which complements the painting well.
